The Town of Clermont
The Town of Clermont was once at the heart of the bustling Florida citrus industry. It was a town surrounded by thousands of acres of orange groves and was home to a variety of roadside attractions for tourists who came to enjoy the scenic area. During the 1980’s, a series of devastating freezes destroyed many of the orange groves, forcing growers to sell their land to developers. The town of Clermont went through a radical transformation as strip malls and housing developments popped up almost overnight. In recent years, thanks to revitalization efforts and the work of volunteers, the historic district is on its way to becoming an interesting tourist destination once again. The historic shopping area is not very lively, but its proximity to Lake Minneola makes it a picturesque little town.
