Nestled among the rolling hills of the Central Florida Ridge are acres and acres of muscadine grapevines and a winery that produces some rather surprising wines. The muscadine grape is native to Florida and thrives in the hot, humid climate and sandy soil without the use of pesticides. The Lakeridge Winery offers a free audiovisual presentation and a tour of the facility that are both interesting and informative. You will learn about the history of the local wine region, the types of grapes that are grown in the area, and how wine is made. At the end of the tour, a free tasting allows you to try many of the wines they produce. Kids get to try the muscadine grape juice. Most of their wines are fruity, sweet, somewhat young, and are not what you would typically find in California. The muscadine grape offers a unique flavor that most people are unfamiliar with, so it is best to keep an open mind while tasting. Their most popular wine is the Southern Red. They also offer white wines, a sparkling wine, a few different reds, and some blends. They are busy on the weekends, especially during their many festivals.
