This roadside attraction is a relic from Orlando’s citrus industry. It was built in 1956, is 256 feet tall (22 stories), and sits on top of the highest ridge in Central Florida. Visitors enter through the gift shop and take an elevator to the observation deck at the top of tower. The citrus tower was originally built to offer tourists a view of the vast acres of orange groves; however, since most of the groves were destroyed by hard freezes in the 1980’s, the view is now dominated by subdivisions and shopping centers. But despite that, the tower gives visitors a nostalgic glimpse of Orlando’s history and still offers a nice view of the surrounding lakes and landscape.
