The Town of Clermont

The Town of Clermont was once at the heart of the bustling Florida citrus industry. It was a town surrounded by thousands of acres of orange groves and was home to a variety of roadside attractions for tourists who came to enjoy the scenic area. During the 1980’s, a series of devastating freezes destroyed many of the orange groves, forcing growers to sell their land to developers. The town of Clermont went through a radical transformation as strip malls and housing developments popped up almost overnight. In recent years, thanks to revitalization efforts and the work of volunteers, the historic district is on its way to becoming an interesting tourist destination once again. The historic shopping area is not very lively, but its proximity to Lake Minneola makes it a picturesque little town.

Lake Minneola Scenic Trail, Clermont Public Beach, Clermont
Clermont Public Beach offers lake swimming, restrooms, picnic tables, and parking. The Lake Minneola Scenic Trail and the South Lake Trail is 9.5 miles long and runs through some of the highest elevations and scenic views in Central Florida (but none are too difficult – this is Florida after all).

Citrus Tower, Clermont
The Citrus Tower is a relic from Orlando’s citrus industry. It was built in 1956, is 256 feet tall (22 stories), and sits on top of the highest ridge in Central Florida.

Presidents Hall of Fame
The Presidents Hall of Fame holds treasures that few people know exist in Orlando. It is home to a 60-foot long, 1/12 scale model and exact representation of the White House. It gives us an opportunity to look into the rooms that only a few people are ever allowed to see.

Lake Ridge Winery, Clermont
The Lake Ridge Winery, nestled among the rolling hills of the Central Florida Ridge, grows acres and acres of muscadine grapevines for the winery that produces some rather surprising wines.
