DeBary Hall Historic Site

with No Comments

This 8,000 square foot house was built by Frederick deBary in 1871 as a hunting lodge and vacation retreat. It now stands as a significant part of Florida history. DeBary Hall Historic Site is worth a visit just to experience the Imagidome Theatre–a virtual ride on a steamboat along the St. Johns river, complete with the rocking motions of a boat. The 15 minute presentation recaps some of the history of the St. Johns river and deBary’s role in the area. Guests then tour the house, which is mostly unfurnished and set up more like a typical museum with displays of photos and Victorian artifacts. The last guided tour begins at 3:30. It is free to walk around outside among the various buildings on the property.
