The Citrus Tower is a relic from the past when Central Florida was at the heart of the citrus industry. The tower was built in 1956, is 256 feet tall (22 stories), and sits on top of the highest ridge in Central Florida. Visitors enter through the gift shop and take an elevator to the observation deck at the top of tower. The Citrus Tower was originally built to offer tourists a view of the vast acres of orange groves; however, since most of the trees were destroyed by hard freezes in the 1980’s, the land was sold to developers. The view is now dominated by subdivisions, parking lots, and shopping centers. But despite that, the tower gives visitors a nostalgic glimpse of Orlando’s history and still offers a view of the surrounding lakes and landscape.
